Public Space and the Metaphors of public space
Basic activity of Cirkulacija 2 participation at MFRU 2011 will be multiple actions in public space – the direct use of streets and buildings for a sort of artistic message. The artistic message has been for quite some time not only aestethic – the visual image – but ever more ethical –so: the truth – which on the other hand has historically always been a part of the wholesome artistic expression. The “truth” and the very related “the just” seem to be based in some other field of human activities – the social struggle and politics – but have also been for some time now pushed to artistic situation – the isolated spaces of art galleries. When this isolation was found to be restricting, the need to move out emerged – in other words: back to free space. But, is the free space free at all?
Fil rouge of the evening public actions of Cirkulacija 2 participants will be the effective – mainly light – interventions into public (urban) space. Not directly political interventions, but far from apolitical – we could say: the civic, as is civic any self-organisation of individuals in a group with the aim of common public activities and expression of their interests. Of course, one collides with the private space and – in the case of public institutions – with privatized public space.
On metaphoric level the public space is a space that does not want to be just a space of individual but a space of collective, and denotes a number of principles that have been used for some time now, but maybe nbot fully understood: do-it-yourself; DIY), open-source-code,… the last one having a broader understanding as open codex – so: the participation at the level of building up the signatures, the laws, etc. The civil society has been in the last decades instrumentalized form the part of beaurocratic international humanitarian organisations and does almost not happen in a self-organised civic manner. Understanding of the world has been totally relativized and atomized under the leadership of expert institutions – the very basic principles that apply to every citizen have been made relative, meaningless and non-transparent. From this soup of non-transparency and meaninglessness the old ideologies of the past peek out – as examples of simple absolute truths. Religions and nationalisms. To confront the pasivization of the masses, the small groups of individuals can only propose the active public stand. Therefore the public actions of artists – performed in a much different way than the historically differently determined political activists do it.
Tools/ fields
The Cirkulacija 2 initiative will at MFRU 2011 festival provide a number of collective light projecting tools/ interfaces/ systems, among them some DIY laser systems, that we will use hopefully in a coherent manner and fulfill also the aestethic criteria of participating artists. We will also prepare some solutions for so-called autonomous light grafitti. The systems will be interactive and generative, meaning the use of sensors , actuators and computers – this beoing the basis of artistic approach that the participating artists share.
This time the artists are: Neven Korda (SI), Boštjan Leskovšek(SI), Stefan Doepner (DE in SI), Lars Vaupel (DE), Boštjan ?adež (SI), Milan Kristl (SI) and Borut Savski (SI). Some more will join us during the events.

V dneh od 18. do 23. novembra 2011 bo bazna postaja Cirkulacije 2 v prostorih na Koroški cesti _____, kjer bodo potekale vsakodnevne priprave in teko?e adaptacije sistema, za obiskovalce pa prost dostop od poldneva dalje. Vsi sodelujo?i bodo voljni za raznoliko komunikacijo z ve?glavim ali posameznim ob?instvom. Vsak ve?er pa bo na razli?nih lokacijah potekala svetlobno-zvo?na akcija.
Za oblikovanje polja razumevanja uporabljenih diskurzov bomo predhodno pripravili sistem klju?nih besed/ konceptov, ki bodisi segajo v polje umetniške teorije, umetniške zgodovine in predvsem novejših principov tehnološko-kibernetske umetnosti, s katero se ukvarjamo. Izpostavljeni bodo nekateri teoretiki, ki so mislili tudi polje medijske umetnosti.
Kot doslej bo pomemben del bazi?ni moment konstruiranja sobivajo?e in sodelujo?e skupine posameznikov, ki mora zadostiti potrebam sodelujo?ih in obiskovalcev. Temeljna konsumpcija je hrana – torej tudi priprava hrane. Višja konsumpcija – konsumpcija vsebin – pa naj ne bo enosmerna, ampak komunikacija. Višji nivoji komunikacije vodijo v spoznanje – generiranje pomenov – razumevanja.
Za razliko od dosedanjih projektov Cirkulacije 2, ki so potekali pod zna?ko Platforma za totalno umetnost, gre tokrat za družni akcionizem skupine, ne ?isto lo?eni tehnološko-delavniški del pa bo potekal v okviru hkratnega festivala Kiblix v prostori KIC Kibla.
Iniciativa Cirkulacija 2
Razširjena Cirkulacija 2 je rahlo povezana združba posameznikov z lastnim umetniškim izrazom, ki v okviru dogodkov poimenovanih Platforma za totalno umetnost v letih 2010 do 2013 izvaja tri enotedenske akcije letno z namenom ustvarjanja žive umetnosti. Kot taka ni vezana na razstavni program galerij, ampak na aktivno participacijo števil?no mo?ne ekipe ustavrjalcev, ki lahko na licu mesta obrazloži namene in postopke, ki jih uporablja. Za uspešno vmeš?anje v neposredno okolje se neprestano preverja smisel po?etja in prilagaja postopke umetniškega delovanja. Umetniško delo je rezultat dela vseh sodelujo?ih avtorjev. Ali: Platforma je umetniško delo.
Cirkulacija 2 je bila ustanovljena leta 2007 z namenom prevetritve produkcijskih in prezentacijskih sistemov galerij in muzejev, in to skozi ve?letni proces skupinskega delovanja. V ve?letnem obdobju delovanja mora nedvoumno prikazati uspešen rezultat daljših sodelovanj – tako na polju razumevanja nekaterih segmentov sodobne umetnosti, kot na polju ustvarjanja novih poti sodobne umetnosti. To ni produkcijska enota za umetniška dela posameznih avtorjev, ki sicer delujejo povsem neodvisno. Temeljni namen ve?letnega delovanja je tudi ustanovitev neodvisnega skupnega fizi?nega prostora za tehnološko in umetniško produkcijo – umetniške delavnice – ali ?e ho?ete: centra za intermedijsko umetnost.
